The Pocket-Dial is a simple, convenient and precise tool used to help measure and adjust the tension of your banjo head, – one of the most critical factors in helping your banjo sound its best. It is small, lightweight, fits easily in your banjo case, and specifically designed to work with both synthetic and natural skin banjo heads.

The Pocket-Dial offers 3 different scales to use when adjusting your banjo head: Simple, Skin, or Standard.

Simply calibrate the Pocket-Dial on a hard surface (such as a glass or granite countertop) to the calibration mark for the scale you would like to use.  Then, press the Pocket-Dial down on your banjo head to get a reading.

For skin heads, there is green zone that gives a good range to account for variations in the surface of the skin head, etc.  For other heads, you can choose between the Standard Scale (which measures the deflection of the head in thousandths of an inch at the spring loaded tip) or Simple Scale which gives you a simple scale to work with to accomplish the same thing ("10" on the Simple Scale corresponds to "90" on the Standard Scale).
