Camp Overview:
This online Cabin Camp will help you become a more complete guitar player! We'll take a bluegrass standard and learn each aspect of playing it on the guitar, in such a way that you'll be able to apply to any song!
Sessions:
Banjo Ben will teach how to analyze the chord progression of a song, then find its melody on the guitar fretboard. We'll concentrate on using our ears and simple picking techniques to make melodies more interesting.
Jakewill first focus on rhythm techniques like bass line walks & substitute chords, then use chord tones to begin creating solo variations.
Trey will lean into improvisation, using bends and up-the-neck knowledge to take your solos to the next level!
Skill Level:
The camp will be broadly aimed at intermediate pickers. Beginners are encouraged to attend because there will be much to be gained, and you'll have access to the videos as you grow in your picking. Advanced pickers are also encouraged to attend as they will also find much value in the material covered.
The price is $149, which includes:
Who are the instructors?
Jake Workman
Jake began playing the guitar when he received one for his 13th birthday. A year and a half later after starting the guitar, Jake’s introduction to bluegrass music came when his parents surprised him with a banjo for Christmas. Jake’s love for bluegrass grew heavily over the next few years as he attended jams and festivals throughout the Western states and eventually the entire country. In late 2015 he got the call from Ricky Skaggs to join his award-winning band, Kentucky Thunder. He has a degree in jazz guitar performance from the University of Utah. When not performing, he teaches private lessons, composes and does session work. His 2019 record, Landmark, showcases his writing ability as well as his seasoned playing. Jake was featured on the cover of the May/June 2015 issue of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine and in 2020 he was awarded the IBMA Bluegrass Guitar Player of the Year.
Trey Hensley
Trey is a GRAMMY®-Award winning musician and singer/songwriter who was voted the 2023 Guitar Player of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association.
Trey has been referred to as “Nashville’s hottest young player” by Acoustic Guitar magazine, “A guitar-slinging superhero” by Bluegrass Today, and a “Musical phenom” by NPR. In addition to a storied solo career and a duo career with award-winning resophonic guitarist Rob Ickes (NPR has called them “two musical phenoms”), he has worked with a diverse list of artists including Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash, Marty Stuart, Earl Scruggs, Dolly Parton, Taj Mahal, Tommy Emmanuel, Rodney Crowell, Old Crow Medicine Show, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Little Feat, Leftover Salmon and REO Speedwagon.
Banjo Ben Clark
Ben has taught thousands of guitar pickers worldwide for nearly two decades and specializes in unlocking the fretboard for better understanding. He thrives on seeing his students "get it" and take their guitar playing to a new level.

Do I have to attend live?

What topics will be taught?
Our goal is to make you a more complete guitar picker! The instructors will be teaching diverse topics so that your experience will be the best investment for you! Do I need any special equipment to attend?
An internet connection with a device like a computer or iPad is all that's needed.
How will I be able to ask questions of the instructors? While we there will be no need for a microphone or webcam, we will be receiving questions beforehand via the event forum page HERE and during the event on the live chat. Your interaction is encouraged!
