This is the Personal Mandolin of Bluegrass Hall Of Famer Dean Webb. Many of you will remember Dean as the mandolin player from the Darlin’s on the Andy Griffith Show! Dean also co-wrote one of the biggest bluegrass hits of all time, “The Old Home Place!”
This is a special instrument. This very one has been played for a president, on a Grammy winning album, played on the Grand Ole Opry and countless other iconic venues, and was even the mandolin Dean played in the classic Dillard’s video “A Night In The Ozarks.”
This historic mandolin was custom made by a lurhier who worked for Gibson in Kalamazoo. This builder stayed with the new company called heritage instruments when Gibson left and built this one of a kind custom F5 “Gibson” style mandolin with all original Gibson parts. There was a Fleur-De-Lis inlay added to the headstock when it was built to make it stand out as unique. You can see that in the autographed photo (see pic) and also in the video mentioned above. Dean always loved that inlay!
Otherwise, this mandolin sounds and plays good. It’s been well kept over the years but has honest play wear from from Dean himself. It even still has a working pickup (passive mic style) from where it was played over the road for all those years. Truly a historic treasure. It includes the autographed photo and a signed affidavit documenting the history of the mandolin and signed by Dean Webb. We are saddened by the recent passing of Dean, he was a good friend. But we’re excited to be able to offer this iconic instrument so his music can live on through his mandolin.
Includes Hardshell Case, Free Shipping, Signed Photo of Dean holding this very mandolin with the Dillard’s, Signed Affadavit, and Pro Setup!
