Remember the great old clown barf picks that felt great, sounded pretty good, but then fell off your thumb 30 minutes into the set because it got too loose? Russ Carson suggested BlueChip create the same dimensions of the clown barf, but with the BlueChip fit and material. Problem solved.
Available in large, medium, and small right hand models. Choose size in drop-down menu.
The stainless steel band on these can be adjusted/manipulated some to achieve a better fit, but great care has to be taken so that the plastic blade isn’t pressed against or used as a fulcrum. It will break.

Throughout the years, I have bought the various Blue Chip thumb pick models. However, the picks felt awkward - in terms of blade length and shape - compared to the Golden Gate multicolored pick, which I’ve used for years. Recently, I read where the Russ Carson model has the same dimensions as the Golden Gate pick. The description was accurate. This pick has the model and dimensions that I need. So, I’m excited to finally have found a Blue Chip model that works well for me!
The fit is great. It is not too large for my finger but the end is too long for me and tends to hit the banjo head. I will need to get a standard or JD Crow but the quality and feel of the Blue Chip thumb pick is unmatched.
Love these thumb picks. Great quality and stay on with this Kentucky humidity.
I’ve tried a number of the blue chip thumb pics and this one is my favorite. The pointy tip gives the D string a much crisper tone.
Initially I purchased a medium, which sat on the top half of my thumb. After exchanging for for a large, I’m am glad to find it sits snugly against the knuckle of my thumb. I feel like I can use good power and control. Glad for the purchase, and excited looking forward.
