Unique design from Deering.  This bridge is designed with a bit of a curve on the bottom to fit the natural sag in a banjo head caused by the pressure of the strings pulling the bridge down against the head.  This helps the bridge retain its shape rather than starting to sag in the middle over time, and provides better surface contact for increased tone transfer in theory.
